Giants fire coach Ben McAdoo, GM Jerry Reese

Ben McAdoo couldn’t manage to save his job — or that of his boss.

With McAdoo’s job on the line, Smith went 21 of 34 for 212 yards and a touchdown but turned the ball over twice on fumbles in a less than impressive performance.

According to NFL Network, Manning is expected to resume his starting role under center Sunday against the Cowboys.

McAdoo, 40, was named the Giants’ head coach in January 2016 after spending the previous two years serving as the team’s offensive coordinator. He led the team to an 11-5 record and a playoff berth last season.

Prior to his stint in New York, McAdoo held various coaching positions with the Packers (2006-13), 49ers (2005) and Saints (2004).

Reese, 54, was promoted to the GM position in January 2007 after working in the Giants’ front office since 1994.

“All I know is I was running a corner route, and when that DB came in and I got off on him, I knew I was gone,” Miller said. “I felt my leg pop. I wasn’t sure it was that bad. I knew I had an injury, but in my mind it was just hold onto the ball as long as you can.”

The injury happened in the third quarter of the game when Miller made an incredible one-handed catch in the end zone. The play was initially ruled a touchdown, but a replay review overturned the call as he was carted off the field with his leg in an aircast.

Said another club official to ESPN: “I think the perspective of the commissioner’s office has been, ‘Hey, we set up this system to limit your [financial] exposure, so you need to play by the rules.'”panthers_042

Cousins has already proven to Washington that he’s a quality starting quarterback.

The New Orleans Saints looked toast down 15 late in the fourth quarter, but Drew Brees orchestrated two touchdown drives in the final minutes to lead the team back against Washington and get a 34-31 win in overtime.

There’s not much more the team can learn about him over the next few games that it wouldn’t already know.

Kelce: Chiefs have to man up: The Chiefs have now lost four of five and look a shadow of the team that crushed the Patriots on opening night. “We have to man up,” tight end Travis Kelce said in his assessment of the game. “Nobody is pointing fingers, but guys have to get called out and be more accountable, and that starts with myself.” Kansas City’s lead in the AFC West is just two games, and fingers will be pointed if that slips away.

Westbrook and Paul George have tried it a couple of times this season. It hasn’t worked yet.

After being traded to the Oklahoma City Thunder this offseason, George spent time watching tape of Durant and Westbrook playing together, trying to get a feel for where Westbrook could set him up best, or how he should move without the ball.

Certainly, the Lakers’ defense looked as if it were already on break. The Lakers watched Antonio Blakeney explode for 15 points in eight minutes and throw down a vicious one-handed dunk on Julius Randle. Denzel Valentine (17 points) also made his first four shots, including three 3-pointers.

Kyle Kuzma kept the Lakers within reach by scoring 18 of his 22 points in the first half. But a cast of Lakers came to life after halftime.steelers_031

How Lonzo Ball helped De’Aaron Fox score on the sneaker market

Sacramento Kings rookie point guard De’Aaron Fox has a budding rivalry with fellow rookie Lonzo Ball, famously ending Ball’s college career with a win in the NCAA tournament, then saying he wanted to win that game to “shut LaVar Ball up.”

After placing four players on injured reserve Tuesday, the Redskins (4-6) will not even attempt a full practice before the game.

Earlier in the quarter, the Titans squandered a chance to start putting the game away when rookie wide receiver Corey Davis fumbled out of bounds while trying to stick the football over the goal line. The ensuing touchback “allowed (Cincinnati) to stick around,” Woodyard said.

To its credit, Tennessee’s offense rebounded and stuck it to Cincinnati on what proved the game-winning 12-play, 73-yard drive following Green’s touchdown. Mariota accounted for 63 of those yards (passing and rushing combined).

Shaquill Griffin, CB, Seattle Seahawks: Griffin exited the game after being shaken up on the first defensive series of the game while making a tackle. He was replaced by the recently signed Byron Maxwell. Griffin was taken back to the locker room to be evaluated for a concussion, and declared doubtful to return.

The Steelers go three-and-out on back-to-back possessions after scoring on their first two drives. The Titans get the ball back on their 29 with just under 10 minutes to play in the half.

Tennessee comes away with no points on the possession. The Titans’ drive stalls following the fourth-down conversion. Kicker Ryan Succop comes on and attempts a 48-yard field goal but his kick is blocked. The Steelers will take over on their 30, leading 10-7.

Mariota completes a third-down pass to Delanie Walker, who comes up just short of the marker. The Titans decide to go for it and convert on the play as Mariota falls forward for a yard.
